Welcome to my blog. It's always great reading other people's blogs-looks great fun to do. So, now I've got some time to indulge myself in patchwork and quilting, I thought I'd have a go. So looking forward to meeting new friends and sharing the passion.

About Me

My photo
Following a lifetime spent in teaching, I'm now enjoying the luxury of having time to indulge in a wonderful hobby. I also now have time to visit my son, his wife and baby in US. Time too, for seeing my other son frequently. Keith, my husband is often drystone walling and climbing...so a girl's got to find something to do. Great news, awaiting the birth of twin grand-daughters in early October 2011...more quilts needed! Ireally welcome welcome your comments and interest in my blog. Thank you. P.S. I'm the one on the right!

Thursday 4 August 2011

So excited...the tickets arrived today for the Festival of Quilts at Birmingham. This has become an annual event for Judith and I, staying in a very nice hotel so we can have two full days of indulgence.

Miniature Patchwork

Miniature hand-stitched, paper pieced yacht.

Flower Basket and Suffolk Puffs

I loved doing this. Wax drawing covered with ink and then the surface scratched to reaveal the colours underneath-very therapeutic!

Representational Patchwork

Using  Clarice Cliffe pottery as a source, various techniques were used such as rubbings and graffito - wax crayons rubbed over string blocks and then scraping away the surface.
This was my first attempt at paper piecing which I did not enjoy. However, I am now a convert!

Blogging!

Wish I knew how to make my blog more interesting with links and a personalised pictures and things. I look at other blogs and the layout on many are SO MUCH prettier than mine! I'll get back to some free motion quilting - that'll cheer me up!
